The programme is designed to provide learners with skills and knowledge to be able to identify, solve problems, and make decisions in relation to the current systems development environments. The learners will gain knowledge on how to install network stations, understanding different computer network architectures as well as understanding the difference between Wide Area Computer Networks and Local Area Networks. The programme will also provide the learners with skills towards Systems Support career path.

The learner must be competent in Mathematics, Communication and Computer Skills at NQF Level 4.

Demonstrate an understanding of different computer network architectures and standards NQF 5 (5 credits)

  • The explanation outlines channel utilization techniques and their features
  • Explain LAN architectures

Install and commission a local area computer network NQF 5 (9 credits)

  • Install local area network devices
  • The installation ensures that the LAN system software and application software performs accordingly
  • Test the installation of local area computer networks

Demonstrate an understanding of Wide Area Computer Networks (WAN`s), comparing them with Local Area Networks (LAN`s) NQF 5 (5 credits)
