The Journey of Skills Development in the Digital Era
E-Learning
Online learning boasts a wide range of advantages including minimal geographic and logistic constraints, zero travel costs and reduced carbon footprints. But did you know that the digitalised approach to education also has a great role to play in the corporate sphere? These days e-learning is pushing the envelope by incorporating augmented reality (AR) and gamification elements into online courses.
In case you are wondering, AR is a way of creating an indirect view of a “real-world” environment utilising computer-generated tools to create sound, video and graphics. While online education programs have already began utilising innovative technological tools and platforms to offer learners comprehensive and interactive learning experiences, the inclusion of AR and VR in corporate learning is fairly new but fast gaining traction among local businesses.
Jason Reid, Managing Director and Co-founder of Fuzzy Logic (a company that develops apps and games for mobile devices) explains that these types of learning programs are able to be more realistic than ever, while also tracking user behaviour and analysing it against key metrics.
User Feedback
“Corporates no longer need to rely on user feedback, which can vary from person to person. Instead, they can use data that is automatically and objectively tracked and rated on the site or app… and at the same time, users receive training/learning as if they are actually on the job – something that training centres can never truly provide,” he says.
Technological visionaries like Jason believe that AR and VR platforms provide the opportunity for e-learning training courses to constantly improve over time while reducing the initial cost impact on the business. These technological advances also encourage learning platforms to adapt to new methodologies more rapidly.
In Jason’s words, we should view this style of corporate learning as a “fixture of our world with immense possibilities which we’re just touching the surface of.”
